Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church

Welcome to your final stop on our social issues walk, we hope that what you’ve heard today has sparked thoughtful conversation, inspired new resolutions, and sparked ideas for how you can support the community initiatives in Edmonton. Here, you’re standing outside the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, who’s circular stained-glass windows and red bricked tower has been a spot of shelter for those in need.

Trinity church has been a great supporter of the neighbourhood and The Neighbour Center.  The church has allowed the Mustard Seed to use the space for running a 40 mat night shelter program, also, runs a food bank depot for the Strathcona area.

Prior to Covid, Trinity, along with the support of several other congregations, hosted Community Dinners on the first and third Tuesday of every month.  Welcome Open to everyone, those that can afford to make a contribution do, to help defray the costs for others.

The community garden is located right next to the church was developed with the goal of creating an environment that nourishes body, mind, spirit, and community – by growing vegetables, fruit, herbs, and flowers in a beautiful mix. It is not necessary to be a church member to be a member of the garden. Priority is given to people who live in the neighbourhood and who do not have other gardening opportunities.

The church also shares the building with Helping Hands daycare to support local community organizations and several “Anonymous” groups meet in the building every week.

And with that, we come to the end of our walk together. Thank you for taking the time to experience our neighbourhood through the lens of those living in poverty and homelessness.  It’s our hope that you come away from this walk having learned something new, with perhaps more questions than answers, and that you are inspired to look for both the beauty and the needs that are present in your own neighbourhood.
