Piper hederaceum or Native Pepper Vine is an Australian rainforest vine with glossy green leaves and clusters of bright red fruit. Queensland’s famous medical investigator, Dr Joseph Bancroft, discovered it was an excellent ‘stimulant tonic to the mucous membrane’, basically turning your body into a mucus and snot making machine. It was also used in the treatment of gonorrhoea. The seeds have a pleasant, spicy flavour.
