Auditorium Info-Popup Lotus

The Lotus or sacred lotus (Nelumbo nucifera) is a flowering, perennial aquatic plant. An individual lotus can live for over 1000 years and has the ability to revive into activity after stasis. In 1994, botanists were able to successfully germinate a seed from a sacred lotus that was about 1, 300 years old. The lotus also has the remarkable ability to regulate  temperature within a narrow range. Research at the University of Adelaide has found that lotus flowers blooming in the Adelaide Botanic Gardens maintained a temperature between 30–35 °C, even when the air temperature dropped to 10 °C. They believe this allows the lotus to attract cold-blooded insect pollinators.
